Speedcar Super Series, Round 1, Murray Bridge Speedway, October 28th, 2006
It was a bit of a mad rush to get the car ready for the 1st race of the season. Right up till the race day morning, there was running around to do getting tyres ready and small bits and pieces.
Time trials - We ran 3rd fastest in a field of 17, with drivers from all over OZ. So we thought this went very well.
1st heat - We started from the rear of the field, had a pretty good run, we made a couple of positions and ended up in 6th. Which we were happy with, as this was the 1st run in race conditions.
2nd heat - We once again started from the rear of the field, we were running pretty good and happy with the car. We were making our way up the field and managed to get into 3rd position. Then it started to come a little undone, getting harder to control and a little all over the track, we had to pull to the outside line and try and finish the race. Weren't to sure what was happening until the rear right wheel came off ("There's your problem" great sideline commentry). Unfortunately the car stopped about a quater lap before the finish line, and it was a DNF.
After the wheel had come off we thought that it might have been it for the night, with no rear right and the axle spline all mashed, it wasn't looking good. With some frantic mechanical work and a lend of a wheel from down the road, we were back in business. We didn't make it in time for the pole shuffle, but with a couple of minutes to spare we made it in time for the 'A' Main.
'A' Main - Starting from mid to rear field, things were going well. With some good racing happening all round we were comfortably in the mix of it. After a little crash and a restart we were up in 6th place and battling it out for 5th. In the frantic action of the pits the rear right wasn't sealed properly and had a slow leak. With every lap it getting worse and the chassis hitting the ground and the front of the car trying to pull right, we had to pull into the infield with only a handful of laps to go. Unfortunately another DNF, but with 20 odd laps of the 'A' Main under our belts.
With a taste of disappointment in our mouths after heading into the infield, this was quickly overcome with what we have managed to achieve in such a short and rushed preparation time before round 1. With all things considered and with the experienced we have gained, things are looking good for the future in the 06/07 season.

Speedcar Super Series, Round 2, Mildura Speedway, November 11th, 2006
After SSS Round 1, there were a few little 'Gremlins' needing sorting out. With a bit of time up our sleaves we managed to get a practice in at Murray Bridge before heading to Mildura. Practice went well and all things seemed to be sorted out, so we were off and ready for Mildura.
Time trials - At the time of running we thought we were on the pace and felt good about the times. After receiving the results we were a little disappointed. We finished in 15th and 1.13sec behind 1st place.
1st heat - Starting from 3rd on the grid, we had a beautiful start moving to the outside and taking the high line we headed straight to the lead. After a crash the yellows were out and upon restart we stayed in 1st. Holding are own for majority of the race with only a handful of laps to go we had a little engine trouble and we dropped back to finish off in 3rd.
2nd heat - Working hard to try and solve the problem, some things didn't quite get put back together properly. This came to light when we got a push start and fuel was leaking all over Colin, not the best ingredient to go racing. Unfortunately with this we had to pull into the infield and didn't get to start.
'A' Main - With all things back together we made it out for the feature. Running not to bad we were taking it one lap at a time, until the 'Gremlins' returned. Coming into turn 3 and taking the high line, the motor started to loose power and giving no drive to pull the car around the corner. Colin got sucked into the wall between turns 3 and 4. Hitting the wall with a spectacular roll over. Not the most ideal way to get the adrenaline going, both the car and Colin were a little banged up but lucky to get out of it with no major injuries or repairs.
With two race meets now under our belts and ironing out all of the little bugs, we are looking forward to the next meet. We are hopeful to get to a few more meetings in this season to get the car just right, so we can hit the ground running and have a good crack at next season.
Remember to check out the Video Clips section were there is some footage of the crash.
